Drone Insanity on the Central Coast

Postby Footprint Productions » Fri Jul 24 2020, 05:39

Hi All,

I was in my shed when I heard a drone hovering overhead. I went outside only to watch it climb up till it was only a tiny spec in the sky.

As I'm on an acreage, I got in my car and went looking for the operator.

Young guy, sitting in his car, flying his drone about 1km away. I confronted him and took pictures of his telemetry on his screen. 156m up from the high point of Macmasters putting him 850ft above sea level ... right in the middle of the helicopter flight path. He was descending as fast as he could so he would have been much higher.

I got his plates and have reported it to the police and CASA RPAS and chewed his ear off.

I'm sharing this you us all to remember to keep a lookout for the muppets that want to end our lives.

Regards
Matt

With the small format of the pictures you can't see the tiny spec, sorry

We get the picture mate
Unfortunately it will probably take a serious accident involving fatalities before these rogue operators realise how dangerous their actions are. The legislators will up the penalties then as well no doubt.

Good work Matt.
Fking idiot And try hard armature.
This is the problem that genuine aviators face on a daily basis, FW & RW.
I will be on the look out when I’m up that way.
Thanks for sharing.
A good shot gun or well placed Round from a sling shot will sort it out and bring losses in the form of $ for the idiots who dare to play around.
Shame really as the trained and legit operators seem to be doing the right thing. (Ie)flight plans, NOTAMS and radio calls to let us know the movements.
There is always an option.

Saw one about 100 ft over the on ramp to the Harbour bridge near Kent street, 33°51'39.9"S 151°12'20.0"E last week

Was low enough to see it was a DJI Mavic Air, no way to figure out where the operator was. There was traffic so if it fell out of the air it would not be a serious result.

A week earlier saw another one similar height over Tumbalong Park in Darling harbour, again people everywhere below it.

Will end in tears, they should all be banned and only licensed operators should be allowed to buy.

Another point to remember that all DJI drones send metadata back to China, all those millions of drones flying all over the world making perfect video maps that can be reworked to 3D visualizations of every country on the planet and sending it all to DJI.

Correct. Including every Australian military base and training area thanks to the 350 DJI Phantoms the ADF handed out like lollies. I brought this up at a drone conference with the top banana in the Army’s drone program and he said: “We don’t have any security concerns because I’ve banned everyone from connecting them to the internet.”
