Physical assessment / fitness tests

Postby Matt_Indi » Wed Feb 22 2023, 04:59

Hi guys, first time poster on the page.
Does anyone have any information about what physical fitness standards are in PHI's technical crew test? Or similar such tests at other companies?

I have seen lots of advertisments for jobs that include that you must be fit enough, but never gives any specific details?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Matt,
This requirement in some form or another seems to pop up often in "pilot wanted" ads or the associated job description. I find that its usually from a general recruiting template and for pilots, holding a first class medical is sufficient. Might be worth a check with their HR or recruiting department tho. Its the same with contracts for mining etc. pilots are usually exempt from providing a client-required medical because the 1st class aviation medical is more stringent.

A rescue tech role needs a CASA class 2 and that’s where the similarity ends. You’ll be glad of that if ever you put one in the piss and someone needs to fish you out

Yeah sorry, I read your post a bit differently. I thought it was a technical crew test for pilot position.

Directly from PHI HR a few days ago......

RCP fitness standards are as follows-

Ability to pass a CASA class 2 medical as pre-requisite.
A fitness test demonstrated as either-
Run 3km<18min
Swim 600m<18min
Row 2Km<10min (indoor rower)
Ride>20km/h average speed for 10Km (MTB)
Ride>30Km/h average speed for at least 10Km (Road bike)
We also require the candidate to be able to swim in full RCP PPE (Immersion suit, Harness, Life-jacket, Helmet, Boots, Gloves etc) for 150m unaided with no time limit.

These standards will need to be upheld throughout employment and are examined on a 3-monthly basis (6-monthly for PPE swim)

If anyone has the CHC and or Toll standards, please add them to this thread...

Hi Guys,

I'm currently researching fitness standards for tech crew in Aus. (I'm trying to introduce some changes within the company I work for) I've recently run into a few speed bumps and thought it might be easier to ask the vast selection of subject matter experts on here. The main question I currently have is, are there any providers who utilise ACO's/RCO's that have a fitness test with a Age/gender scaled system?

Appreciate any and all answers.
