NT R44 Cover-Up?

Postby choppermech1986 » Wed Oct 19 2022, 22:55

I'm surprised we haven't seen more of this on BS, there are 3 or 4 associated articles that are all pretty explosive. It sounds like multiple parties involved in destroying evidence, lying on statutory declarations, pressuring witnesses etc etc.

In typical territory fashion, the full unabridged story would make for very interesting reading and I get the feeling that a few heads will roll from this when it all comes out in the wash.

Hopefully the truth can be revealed and anyone trying to pervert the course of justice spends plenty of time in prison.

You only need to read the comments in the link to get the general feel of what people think about this in the NT

Probably best to leave the commentary to the FB crowd as I reckon this little can of worms is best left to alone based on what the Crown Prosecutor has stated:

"We're not saying Mr Burbdige is the main player, or indeed a central player, but he is part of an overall matrix of individuals who have come together and done things to obfuscate or impede a proper investigation into the circumstances of that fatality."

Very sad situation for all involved.
I have met Matt and Mick whilst on the job, I don’t know them personally, but I’m sure this is a very sensitive situation for all involved particularly as they are all mates that lost another.
Good advice from 60 driver!
Let the courts sort it out.
As for the cop... pop;
There is always an option.

“He has been charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, destruction of evidence, providing a false statement in a statutory declaration, and attempt to pervert the course of justice” (ABC News)

Mates looking out for mates… is that what you’re trying to say?!

Three simultaneous investigations currently underway between CASA, ATSB, and NT Police.

Interesting that NT Police now want to speak to anyone that’s ever been in VH-IDW.

pop;

It's just a guess but I think CASA would like to make an example and be seen to be tough in the fallout of this. I get the feeling that in the course of their investigation into this accident, and especially if they're trying to piece together the history of the aircraft, they will be able to collect enough evidence to rescind a few pilots licences. Excuse my cynicism but I'll bet good money that the video footage on some tourists phones tallies up to a lot more than ever went on the MR.

They may not be able to get to the bottom of what happened that day, but my guess is they will really try to punish those who they can prove were doing the wrong thing, long before the accident.

When the case is this high profile, you can be fairly sure the prosecutor has been sharp enough to dot their ‘i’s and cross their ‘t’s before charging anyone with regularly disconnecting the Hobbs meters across the fleet. pop;

NT has been leading aviation prosecutions of late and with the maximum WHS manslaughter offence penalty being LIFE imprisonment, I’d say it’ll be an interesting hearing to say the least.

Media reports had 4 guys arriving at the crash site prior to emergency services.

Seems there's more to this than disconnecting the hobbs

Going to be an interesting hearing to say the least with the no of people involved.

The Hobbs disconnection evidence was more an example of the extra time and effort the prosecution have gone to with these latest charges.

Proving who the four people were that were in the machine that arrived shortly before evidence started evaporating would’ve been an easy one.

Yup, after todays update I’d say he’ll be trying to keep a low profile
