While we are shutting every business down let’s also close up the seaplanes operating from Rose bay, and while we are at it let’s look out for our western Sydney friends and shutdown runway 16L/R because surely the noise from the jets on approach will be upsetting all those living around there.

I’m not usually one to weigh in on a debate like this but if you’re living on the harbour down there you can’t be doing too badly for yourself so nothing to complain about otherwise go buy a place in the southern highlands it’s nice and quiet down there.

I say let’s open that Penrith Helipad, perfect spot for staging during the fire season too being right on the edge of the mountains, response times can be greatly reduced for our airborne firefighting crews.

Joy flights are essential to give pilots hours to build to do the EMS/Police/Fire work. You can't just pluck a 100HR student from a training school and stick them on these roles.
The experienced ones will the be the ones flying the VTOLS (at least at first)

Joyflights also are good for PR in terms of tourists understanding what it looks like in a heli. I have taken many at first NIMBY's and they were converted after going for a fly. It's not going to have that effect on everyone but at least they know now. It also keeps us employed.

When we proposed the Parramatta Heliport, the local Labor council (Labor hates helicopters anywhere in Sydney, specially Balmain) they put up a series of tests which they expected us to fail. The noise tests had microphones placed in spots they reckoned would rule us out. We conducted the (very expensive) noise tests, and on the most critical test site, they couldn't hear the choppers overflying because of the other traffic noise.

The environmental test (expensive university people) concluded that any creature that could survive the polluted environment of Duck Creek (oil refinery, gravel crusher, dust fallout from speedway) would probably relish the appearance of a helicopter. Passed all the tests, never had a complaint since the start in 1997.

And yes, the life blood was the "pointless" 30-minute scenic flights up to Hornsby, over the Ku-Ring-Gai national park, beaches from Collaroy to Manly, the harbour down to the bridge and along the Parramatta River, finishing with an orbit of the Olympic Site. Delightful. Never saw Gonsky once.
