eVTOL propensity for Vortex Ring State (VRS)

Postby FerrariFlyer » Tue Jan 17 2023, 00:50

An interesting watch, particularly considering the seemingly 'blind and over zealous' commitment by industry that our skies in remote and more so urban environments will soon be filled with even more drones and eVTOL craft.

https://youtu.be/6-_UgEmenRo

It's worth the watch despite being just shy of 30 minutes.

If nothing else, watch the last 2-3 minutes of that presentation; it brings back a much needed dose of reality to the hype surrounding what is, at best, a complimentary part to the helicopter industry.

Wonder what the local drone pest has to comment about that.

Have you seen the nasa footage of their drop test of an eVTOL cabin?

Kinda hilarious to watch it disintegrate

the local drone pest

Could you call him a "Cereal Pest", because he crops up now and then?

Having, not sure if this is the one you're referring to... but by the time you see it for the fifth time in rapid sequence it does get kinda funny

It would be very interesting to see how the complete version of the dream VTOL crashes with all those blades chopping up the fuselage and being scattered in all directions.
I’m thinking it will look like a bunch of blenders mulching everything in their path.
Won’t ever get me or my family in one, they look like a death trap!

That test in the YouTube link that is being referenced doesn't look promising. One would have to assume more testing is required.

I'd be interested to see how one of these vehicles would perform when dropped in a 'normal, operational configuration' with wings, propulsion units and batteries etc. It has to also be remembered that unlike a traditional fossil fuel powered aircraft, eVTOLs don't get lighter the longer they fly. Yet another performance consideration.

Further, how do the batteries handle defamation on impact?

They hire lawyers and sue your socks off.

Bur deformation, that's another thing.

Defamation/deformation....I'll pay that. Nicely done.
