Linda Gibbs at ellco in towoomba is pretty good. Linda was suggested to me by other pilots. I was doing international aviation FIFO and have used her since 2012.

Those ones in the shopping malls are usually pretty switched on. You could by a phone cover while you wait.

ATO have invested big $$ on analytics over the past few years and can spot any taxpayer that is claiming above what the ATO call the industry norm. They have developed a large base of average expenses for a wide range of workers. Most tax agents know this. Responding to an ATO pre audit questionaire is something most agents don't want and don't have time to do. Even worse if it develops into a full audit. Penalties including cancellation or suspension of their tax agent registration can be applied to an agent by the TPB. Ie just like having your medical revoked. ATO and TPB devote time and effort in weeding out "good" accountants and unregistered tax preparers.
Good luck with your search. If you are in business, find an accountant that will take the time to work with you. Not one who spends your money looking for "loopholes"

Re: tax accountant wanted
I'm not asking to be dishonest, just know what we do pay for and what we are eligible for.
My accountant has failed to claim that the majority of my work was remote and didn't allow me too claim that subsodiy
Sure there are other things he has missed and like packer said, I want to reduce my tax paid because as a government they are not spending it that wisely.
It's better in my pocket to provide for my family.
It's hard enough at the moment without loosing more coin to them who have caused the issues we all face.
So just want an accountant who can help the working man not the government.

Re: tax accountant wanted
I can't recommend an accountant, however my advice is to make it your business to become familiar with the tax laws. They are very complicated and difficult to interpret, however it could save you thousands by not relying on an accountant's opinion.
I was running a small consulting business drafting ops manuals etc, on the side. The ATO killed the business as the tax was absolutely ridiculous. If I didn't get control of the tax debt, I was certainly on the way to bankruptcy very quick! My original accountant missed a critical thing, then I changed to another one and a similar thing happened and the tax debt kept skyrocketing. Then one day earlier this year I had a light bulb moment and thought that something wasn't quite right. As it turned out after a lot of investigation by myself and stress, it was identified that both my accountants did not identify the problem that was causing the huge tax debt. Also trying to convince my current accountant of the problem was a challenging, they certainly weren't working for me at the time!
The issue was in relation to foreign tax offset as I was employed in PNG where the marginal tax rate is a lot higher than in Australia, hence I was being double taxed the difference by the ATO. Once the adjustments were made, the tax debt significantly reduced. The ATO should end up owing me money for the 2024/2025 tax return if all goes to plan.
Good luck.
