Babcock Mission Critical Services Australasia is a growing business that provides helicopter Search and Rescue, Emergency Medical Services, Air Ambulance, Passenger Transport, Marine Pilot Transfer, Surveillance and Defence Support operations across Australia.



An opportunity exists for a suitably experienced Multi-Engine Pilot to join our Flying Operations Team at our Adelaide Base. This business critical role will support our service to the Adelaide MAC Rescue Helicopter Fleet that utilises two Bell 412EP Helicopters and a Eurocopter EC-130.



Essential Requirements:

· Air Transport Pilot Licence – Helicopter (ATPL-H)

· Instrument rating – Multi-engine Helicopter (IR MEH)

· >2,000 hours total – Helicopter or 1,500 military hours

· 1,000 hours – Pilot in Command Helicopter

· >400 hours – Multi-engine Helicopter

· >200 hours – Night



Desirable Requirements:

· B412 type rating

· Previous EMS/SAR experience

· Endorsements: Winch, Low Flying, Static Line Lift,

Fast Roping and Rappelling

· FLIR and NVG

I think the military log hours differently and only log take-off to landing time whereas in civi street is engine start to stop. Perhaps this is an explanation as to why there is a difference.

That's correct FF. Ex Mil pilots can add 20% to their Mil time upon exiting due to the way their hours have been logged. Kiwi's log their hours the same way if I'm not mistaken

I've always logged engine start, engine stop.
Main reason is as soon as the engine is running, rotors are turning. Doesn't matter if it's just an engine run, you're the "pilot in command", even on the ground you are responsible, some clown walks into the tail rotor you can say "I wasn't logging hours, I'm not responsible". CAA would go after you as pic, insurance company would go after you as pic, courts would go after you as pic and clowns relatives would go after you as pic.

And that would be the same no matter what country you were in, no matter what branch of the military you were in.

As per the FAA - FARS flight time logging can be skids off to skids on (airtime) or engine time (rotors in motion) Pilots choice! But most log only airtime
