Bose A20 is my preferred headset. Lightspeed Zulu's are pretty good too, but I cannot get them to sit properly with my sunglasses. Admittedly the sunglasses are bulky Oakleys with wide plastic arms - but I need the bigger frames/arm to accommodate prescription lenses.
Best option is to talk nicely to someone with a headset that you like the look of and borrow it to see how it goes for you.

I’ve tried most of them over the years and the Bose A20 works for me nowadays.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Will check out the A20.

Is wireless the go or stick with wired?

Whats the battery life like on the A20’s? Rechargeable?

I run the Bose A20, I’ve managed to get just over 60hrs out of a set of Energizer Blue batteries which I thought was pretty great, on normal Energizer or Duracell’s I get 20-40 hours depending on the temperature. ANR is a definite benefit for your long term hearing too.

The wireless headsets on the market such as the Lightspeed Tango have rechargeable battery’s they say only last around 12hours (please correct me if I am wrong), I do know one pilot who is running them but haven’t had a chance to ask him what he thinks of them. I guess the wireless is a benefit if you’re in and out of the machine for any reason.

Hope this helps

Wireless is new technology. Not available from Bose (for aviation headsets), yet.

I’ve used the Lightspeed Tangos for a year. I like them a lot. Charging them every day is a downside. (Depending on the daily use this is probably overkill). Having no cable is great. (Has “emergency cable” if required)

Perfect Bluetooth phone hook up, for AWIS/ emergency coms/ Spotify :P

I use them for Off Shore. A great benefit to be in coms with the other pilot, while walking around the Helideck. Can also hear the radio, inc any HLO transmissions.

I get a little electrical interference on one (of 10?) oil rigs.

There have been some quality control issues with this model, I know several pairs that have been sent back, including mine (after a year of heavy use). The warranty and service is superb.

A20 is the safe bet. Tangos are the cutting edge.

I use the Panasonic Eneloop Pro rechargeable batteries (the Japanese ones, not the Chinese made ones) and they are brilliant. Go with rechargeables, and avoid anything below 2200MAH, also avoid anything with Heavy Duty written on the side as they get chewed.

Seriously check these guys out:

https://nflightmic.com/

Pretty much turn any of your Bluetooth home earphones into aviation headsets.

The microphone uses a magnet to attach to the side.

I’ve tried another companies version of his and it works great. I just ordered one from these guys myself. Saves having to have a separate set of headphones for commuting or whatever.

Bose Bose Bose Bose Bose Bose

The ANR is superior to anything on the market (although I have not used the new wireless tango but previous lightspeeed is far far inferior) the new bose microphone is superb, superior to gentex / DC and the A20 is all I run in my helmets or those rare times I have to fly without my helmet

Re the battery question they last quite a while, 2 full days on a standard alkaline seems a safe guide. Personally I use rechargeable nimh energizers but might give those panasonic’s a go. Be aware that using nimh the low battery light is not reliable so carry a spare set with you.

DO NOT run those disposable lithium’s in bose, they output a higher voltage and this can in certain circumstances cause issues with the headset resulting in short buzzing or squeals

I used the EQ1 ( wireless, bluetooth ) for about 4...5 mths. Found after 3..4 hrs of use, they began to just get uncomfortable, was constantly lifting off ears and resetting. Took the plunge, bought A20........love em.
