Hello fellow slappers,
I'm just trying to ascertain for certain whether there are any schools in Tasmania that could train a pilot from scratch to CPL and beyond? I've found that TasAir, a training school near Launceston, was forced to liquidate http://www.tasair.com.au/ leaving the only remaining helicopter training available to companies such as RotorLift which only do advanced training. I've read through the posts which suggest there was a school years ago which I assume was TasAir, but if anyone is in the know about the current situation could you please let me know? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Cavok

Re: Tasmania flight training
Cavok,
There was a school at the Launceston airport a few years ago, Helitas, which operated under the Helicopter Group AOC. I did my training with them and was fortunate to have an excellent instructor. However, they are no longer running the training.
I think you will find that Tasair was a fixed wing school. There was another school operating out of Devonport around 2008, but they wrote their machine off (ground resonance) and lost their CFI.
So unfortunately you will have to venture over to the big island to do your training. From my experience I recommend the Helicopter Group. They also offer low timers a chance at the rock after you get your licence.
Cheers

Cheers Blackers. Yes I've heard they're a good school. It's a pity there isn't one down in Tassy since it'd be such an excellent landscape to learn on/above.
Thanks again!

If you are close to Launceston over the weekend, book in for a scenic flight from the glebe gardens near the Kmart. $60 for a seat and I can show you a little bit from the air.

To dredge up an old thread, is there any CPL(H) options available in northern Tasmania ? Anywhere in Tasmania ?

Give Albert DeVeth a call on 0427 747 088.
I believe he has a school approved in Launceston.
