Re: Susi Air Indonesia
I got offered a gig with them PIC on one of their fixed-wing's (caravan) it looked like it would an alright
gig just to get overseas experience and have some fun in Indo or West Papua. Flying is reasonably challenging (more so in west papua) and they have a
variety of multi-national crews. Although the company don't get a great wrap from people who have worked there.
Usual old story, might suit some, might not suit others. Pay is crap, but living in indo is cheap and if you want to go
for the hell of it then why not. They wanted to bond me on the Caravan even though I had plenty of command time on type,
I was more interested in the Pilatus Porter operation out of West Papua. I decided not to go because I got offered another gig overseas
and took that, had I not been offered the other gig I probably would have gone and checked it out, but I did have a job in Aus to come back
to if it didn't work out. So it was no stress for me, just pack a bag and head off.
Do a search on the dark side in the down under section, think it's D&G. There is a lengthy thread (mostly crap) but if you trawl through it
there is some relevant posts with good info. No harm in going and checking it out, if you have nothing to loose.
Good luck.

Re: Susi Air Indonesia
I have a friend a very experienced pilot been in this industry a long time who recently took on a position with that company ....
Started off very well did the factory courses for both helicopter types ...was promised the world etc etc
Wasn't long before he was getting pressure from the owners wife to adopt the Indonesian way of doing things most of the demands being quite illegal I won't go into details except to say go in with your eyes open and remember in Indonesia the authorities are looking for opportunity's to catch the "bule" out.... easy way for some quick cash.
Other than that Indonesia is a nice place to work... the ordinary people quite friendly and its certainly a lot safer and more pleasant to work than PNG
I would also suggest if you are happily married don't go over
fly safe

Re: Susi Air Indonesia
Maybe they treat the more experienced heli boys better than some of the fresh FW cpl crew they have working there. But....I would suggest that anyone going ensures that they will be supplied with a proper work permit (KITAS) and confirms that susi air will undertake the process of gaining you a full indonesian lifetime licence.. as per the regulation for foreign pilots working in indo, also that all expat heli pilots should hold an instructor rating on there home licence (don't see this in the requirements).... in saying this the "capt" that issues your dgca approval is allways open to a little negotiation..
Flying on a tourist visa and no indonesian licence validation may work for a short time but wouldn't want to be in that position if there happened to be an incident...
Great country with some fantastic flying though, can recommend that side of things highly.

Great show on TV now "Worst Place To Be A Pilot", although maybe not shown in Aus? Check youtube as they have the first 3 episodes.

Just watched the first 3 episodes in a row, well worth watching indeed.
Would love to see something similar about helicopters....
