Early retirement

Postby hand in pants » Fri Feb 10 2017, 15:21

Due to CAA not renewing my medical certificate I have been forced to retire from aviation.
Not happy but will walk away knowing the industry has added something interesting, fun and satisfying to my life.
I will turn my back to the helicopter industry and try to live a normal life. I'll try not to look up every time I hear one of you flying over.
28 odd years has flashed past in the blink of an eye.
I did become a bit jaded/disappointed with the way things have gone in the last 3 or 4 years with CAA changing the rules to the rubbish you now have to put up with, but we let that happen.
Thanks to all my friends, workmates and like minded people, it is you that have made working with helicopters so enjoyable and I leave with memories that will last a lifetime.

So sorry to hear that HIP. I really have enjoyed your comments and insight on this Forum. I hope that somehow you can still stay engaged on this Forum. Around this time last year I purchased a Cessna 150j. I have to say that I enjoy flying my little 150 around more than I do my commercial helicopter job. Not sure if you're in position to or interested but I hope that some way you can continue to fly.

Well that's a crying shame.

Still, you can set yourself up as a consultant now and make some big bucks!

Terry,
Disappointing and surprising news.
I wonder how many from that CPL-H theory class. (Steve Dynes. Drumoyne TAFE annex) are still flying?
Remember the "charter boat final party"? :cool_slp:

All the best.

Hello Skypig. Been a while....thought you might have retired too in one way or another.

HIP it's been entertaining and enjoyable. I trust you'll remain active on the site. Best wishes in retirement and safe travels. I was hoping you'd drop by again for a cuppa - could have made room in the back yard for the 130 for you.

Hopefully we can arrange for some slapper drinks in Newie soon and have a few drinks to help you settle into 'permanent relaxation'. I know Twisty will be in for a couple.

Simon, I've still got photos of that cruise. For a couple of thousand I won't publish them.............................

Terry, that's rotten news, but as with everything you've done in the industry over the years (and here as HIP), your upbeat attitude is a great example. Thanks for the contribution on all fronts and very best of luck.

PS: Skypig, I second FF...good to see your handle still about.

Jeepers, I don't have a clue who you are in real life, but I have normally very much enjoyed your opinions on this forum and found them in the most cases, to reflect my own perfectly balanced (yeah ok, albeit occasionally cynical) viewpoints... So you must be a good bloke. Stick around.

Sad to hear that Terry.
Was it a surprise and are you able to keep a Class 2, or is it all over?
I suppose that it will happen to all of us one day, but it would be nicer to be able to walk and not get pushed!

(Simon, Good to see that you still visit.)
