Heads Up
CAO 40.3.7, Exemptions 8.1, where it says "CASA may give consideration to reducing the 40-hour course of helicopter flight instruction specified at paragraph 4.2 (c) to a minimum of 20 hours flight time.... " SHOULD READ won't give consideration
For anyone considering going down this road, save your breath and plan accordingly. I thought I would be ok with a Defence Force Instructional background (Central Flying School), plus a current civvy FI(A)Gr.1 - but apparently not. According to one school, a 14000hr FI(A)Gr.1 ATO with 3000hrs Rotary was turned down for a syllabus reduction, went ministerial and it took 18mths to loose the case.
Seems from CASA's POV, there is 'zero' common ground between instructing in fixed wing and rotary wing. I would beg to differ, but my voice would trail off into oblivion where CASA is concerned.
I hope this saves someone the grief it's caused me!!
Good Luck

First and only mistake. Expecting anything but obstruction and idiocy from CASA (Cease All Sensible Aviation)

Finally I think CASA might be getting it right! Far too many 'dispensations' have been issued in the past with less that ideal outcomes! For the record, there is a significant difference between instructing for both disciplines and I speak as a holder of Grade 1 in both!
