CareFlight is an Australian charitable organisation with over 30 years’ experience in aeromedicine. With bases in NSW and the NT’s Top End, our crews are dedicated to providing the highest standard of rapid response critical care to the ill and injured. Our specially trained doctors, nurses and paramedics use helicopters, aeroplanes, medi-jets and road ambulances to bring a hospital level of care to and transport around 5,000 patients each year.

The role

We currently have an excellent opportunity for an experienced training & checking aircrew officer to join our Northern Operations. While this position is based in Darwin, interested applicants must be flexible when it comes to working from other locations as this may be regularly required in order to meet operational growth.

The successful applicant will have a flexible approach to their roster and be able to commence at short notice. Key responsibilities include:

• undertaking shifts at the location as required by the roster;
• successfully completing all ACO training & checking requirements within first six months of employment;
• assisting the Chief Aircrew Officer with the management of training and checking for all rear seat crew (including Down the Wire crew) ensuring currencies and recencies are maintained;
• attending to aircrew officer duties in accordance with policies and procedures;
• willingly undertaking secondary non-flying duties as allocated from time to time;
• ensuring shifts are conducted in accordance with FRMS, as required by the roster;
• participating in aircrew officer training; and
• maintaining aviation operation proficiency and fitness as stipulated by contract.

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess the following:

• a minimum of 1,000 hours as a helicopter aircrew officer / winch operator;
• previous SAR / EMS experience with a minimum of three (3) years full-time civil experience;
• Winch / rappel competency in accordance with CAO 29.11;
• NVG competency in accordance with CAO 82.6 (minimum of 100 hours);
• Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET);
• a sound understanding of CAOs, rules and regulations pertaining to the aircrew officer role within a rotary wing operation;
• a demonstrated understanding of CRM, risk management and safety management systems; and
• the ability to relocate to Darwin.

The following will be highly regarded:

• previous AW139 experience including front seat;
• previous civil training and checking experience;
• CASA Class 2 Medical; and
• First Aid / Resuscitation Certificate from a recognised authority.
