Hi Gents,
I need some advice on blood pressure for a class 2 medical. Did a pre employment medical and my Bp was 145/85, my class 2 medical is due and I’m booked into a dame. Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated, I’m not over weight and eat healthy everything I googled i do so I’m unsure why it’s high and am worried that they’ll fail my medical and make me do more tests that I really cannot afford..
Regards H

It is a little high, but hardly catastrophic. The limit according to the DAME handbook is 150/90.
If you self check it periodically, keep a record and show it to the doctor when you have your medical. They generally expect a bit of white coat fever when you go in.
I know it sounds flippant, but stressing about it will cause it to increase when you go in.
Worst case is you can be prescribed medication to keep it down which is acceptable to CASA.

What Mongrel said.
I've been on medication for blood pressure for the last 15 years. And it hasn't effected me. wertiunswpf498f[qrp344444444444444444444

Maybe have a quick nap for 10 minutes and let them take it. I’ve done that once or twice as I get white coat hypertension.

Re: Medical blood pressure advice please!
My last BP reading with the DAME was approaching the limit (it had been slowly rising over the many years of testing), she said "simply take the medicine", so now I do, and my BP is back to perfect. It is absolutely no big deal. If you need to take it, take it.
Most of the reason your BP changes is due to genetic factors, not being overweight (because of course all of us stay super fit ).

My BP normally runs about 128/78, but for some years I had to have an exercise ECG and went to a heart specialist (north of Melbourne) who delighted in telling me my BP was too high and further testing was needed: always with the same story about how he'd saved the lives of 3-4 pilots who had issues that were diagnosed and fixed.
I got heartily fed up with him and asked for a referral to another specialist, whose opening comment was along the lines of "you've got good BP"!!! Followed by the normal treadmill and no further tests needed.
No doubt that after a couple of visits to Dr Misery I had higher BP just from thinking about the outcome, but I'm still ticking over 128/78 which hopefully will get me through the annual medical in two days time
My advice is to relax and make the appointment as stress free as possible

I suggest you may suffer from "White Coat Syndrome", if no other health issues. It happens.
A Cardiac Stress Test would reveal all.
Of course, your BP will be different sitting, standing, lying. It will rise with age, but not necessarily.
Do not drink anything with Caffeine for 24 hours prior to the Medical.
Switch off the AC/DC or Jimi Hendrix and listen to Bach Das "Air" von Johann Sebastian Bach aus der 3. Suite für Orchester (D-Dur; BWV 1068), 2. Satz or Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 14
It is possible to control your Blood Pressure and Pulse with your mind . . . There are those who can beat or have been trained to beat a polygraph, for example.

Caffeine is a big one. Just avoid it before your test and you'll most likely be fine.

Lie down when they take your BP and think of a waterfall in the rainforest...
Works for me.
