I'm baffled at all the garbage replies, especially Pohms that now looks like it has been deleted. See an immigration lawyer, the path from SA to Australia is one that is well trod, you should be able to find forums that specifically relate to the immigration aspect. As for the flying side, most companies won't touch you until you have a work permit, after that, they'll probably be falling over themselves to hire a young, experienced, (and I'm assuming ag) pilot. If you still need help after Googling the license conversion and immigration process, PM me and I will put you in touch with a young teacher who just immigrated from South Africa to Australia.

Re: Helicopter Pilot Immigration
A rough guide to working down under, as I found it but rules have changed.
You need a CASA license before you can apply for a visa
You need an ASIC before CASA will issue the license
You have to be in Australia for the ASIC to be issued
Once you have your license then the procedure is well documented on the immigration pages of the government website https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-finder. Get a good migration agent and do some good research as they can make or break the process, or just do it yourself if it is relatively simple.
Good luck, we found the move is well worth it.

Get:
copies of all Training Records certified/notarised
Pilot Logbooks documenting how many fleas you have scratched, bones you have gnawed, holes you have dug. They LOVE nit noi, and minutiae here. Anywhere else, a Commercial Pilot Licence is a licence to earn, while you learn, just don't kill yourself or anyone else. How many hours of Longline, must be documented. How many hours of Bambi Bucket, must be documented. How many hours of low level must be documented . . . Nap-of-the-Earth, whilst wearing NVG in formation doesn't count toward that. How many hours of Hoist must be documented. How many hours of formation must be documented. All manner of anything not straight-n-level we have an Endorsement for or a Certificate III for, here, so, the more documentation you have to prevent getting knocked back, regardless that you have the hours, but no place among all those green pages of small lines to write all that completely extraneous bullsh!t. Get each page of your Pilot Logbook stamped and signed by your employer . . . If you have copies of aircraft logbook pages, fuel receipts, or aircraft logbook page numbers entered with your flight time entries in your Pilot Logbook, all the better, though sometimes it doesn't make any difference how much evidence you can provide.
Good luck with it all.

Re: Helicopter Pilot Immigration
You're better off using anything else for skilled employment/migration.
Just because it is on list of company sponsored visas, doesn't mean much. Those ex-457 visas are/were used for specialist skills, so to speak, like fire ops, seaplanes PICs, regional airlines' PICs at least in past.
Even offshore companies didn't show interest in some experienced twin turbine guy some years back according to his account here.
Yes, as mentioned. Visa vs job offer/interest can be Catch-22 conundrum even if some companies could sort the paperwork. Or possibly, not necessarily aviation companies, may want your OWN work rights before sponsoring. Seen it first hand, not myself.
Or eager (non-aviation) companies BUT won't give job offer needed for, for example SC190 or 489 visa processing (state nomination bonus points)
With your hours/work, Canada should be easier for independent skilled migration. Not such bull as here in Oz. Yes, "enjoyed" lot of CASA and immigration hassle/headache.
I recommend getting some Jetty and Astar time before going anywhere, if able to.

You must be thinking of the other Australia, in 20 years I’ve not been aware of any companies that are “falling over themselves” to employ a pilot in this Australia. Maybe once the Vietnam vets retire, but not until then.

Hmm given a 20 year old in 1970 would now be touching 70, i dont know that too many Vietnam Vets would be taking that many slots????......as with everything its Supply versus Demand and we lack Demand significantly over Supply in Australia.

Sorry, "falling over themselves" probably wasn't the term to use, "very interested in hiring you" is probably more apt. It's all semantics however, but I have found that good, experienced pilots who don't have pathological personalities are always in demand.

Waynefly87,
There is "Demand":
https://www.seek.com.au/helicopter-pilot-jobs
https://www.seek.com.au/rotary+wing-pilot-jobs
https://www.seek.com.au/Aviation-pilot-jobs
https://www.seek.com.au/aircraft-pilot-jobs
https://www.seek.com.au/aviation-jobs
https://www.afap.org.au/pilot-jobs/?categoryId=0&page=0&search=
That is not the real issue. And, you are not getting the full story.
Did you hear about the Saudi girl, barricaded in a Bangkok Hotel, pleading for asylum?
She was offered a Protection Visa from Canada in one day.
Did you read on this forum that you should try Canada?
That IS the real issue, "Fvck off, you're not welcome here!" You might take someone's job, become their Chief Pilot or tell 'em how it is really done, beyond the big island, or not put up with the utter bullsh!t and cavalier/cowboy attitudes and shonky operators. Just "Tall Poppy Syndrome".

Re: Helicopter Pilot Immigration
Great list of jobs there, mostly multi engine IFR except for Nautilus whose very first requirement is that the applicant must have the right to live & work in Australia. Regardless, I’m sure the OP can use the links to keep an eye out for future opportunities which will be a great help to them. With the quantity of Australian & New Zealand Pilots travelling the country visiting companies in person to get a job I don’t hold much hope for a foreign pilot to get a visa without specialist skills, as mentioned previously. Nearly every pilot who doesn’t live in a major centre has low level & piston experience in Australia so it’s not really a skill which would get a visa application over the line. Canada is certainly a more attractive option, & in my opinion it is good advice to try there, particularly as the OP has a reasonable quantity of hours but limited turbine time as Canadians aren’t as anal about that experience as Australians are.
I may be wrong flyhuey but I took your post as a dig at me for my comments(maybe I’m too sensitive?), your comments when compared to my actual situation couldn’t be further from the truth. If I am correct, all I can say is that I hope you eventually make peace with your bitterness & move on with life. Personally I am merely trying to offer accurate advice to someone who is trying make a large life decision.

I achieved all the goals I set for myself, during my career, going from Army helicopter Pilot to Captain, flying the Boeing 747-400, -300, and -200, plus owned an aircraft. What more is there? Oh, wait, take a Robbie or a Cessna 172 up on a Sunday to go to lunch, in my retirement. Nah!

36 years perfect safety record, operated in 44 to 47 countries, operated 130 different aircraft, ATPLs from seven of 'em. How did that happen? Airlines just don't let any a$$hole command a Boeing 747-400 with 400 passengers and 18 crew. I have been around a lot of Auusie Pilots, I have flown with more than a few, at least a couple as my FO (Co-). Kunts. I spent five years in China, as a Captain. The airline hired a true blue Aussie . . . He didn't last 18 months. Snivelling Kunt. And, I don't remember if it was an Altitude bust or some other stupdiity that he made. Five years and I came away without any accidents, incidents, or violations, in China, AND, I have it in writing. Yeah, the skies are safer -for ME that I don't have to put up with shonky operators and snivelling kunts and jealous cocksuckers -like YOU, Mate.
