I actually did this several years ago when my Class 1 was coming up for renewal. I had a corporate gig and I simply assumed that I could use my Class 2 as it was a private operation. I bumped into a CASA FOI while he was ramp checking all the commercial operators at Indy (Remember that car race on the Gold Coast!) and after having casual chat about what I do, bearing in mind he'd just checked my licence and medical, he recommended I go and get my Class 1 back or get a PPL licence officially issued!
