B206 v AB206

Given the number of AB206’s built in Italy flying in Australia and NZ I’m wondering what the authorities take on fitting Bell parts to them is.

The reason I ask is in Europe (EASA) the authorities won’t allow Bell parts be fitted to an AB anymore, was ok years ago. Bell won’t take over the type cert of the Italian airframes but Leonardo as they are now won’t produce parts anymore so people are struggling.

We all know they’re the same parts and often if you can get something from Leonardo it’s a Bell produced part sent to Italy and re-certified under what’s known as a Form1.

Let me know the thoughts of operators. Thanks

Hi Moderators. Seems either nobody knows or is looking at this section. Can you move the initial post to a mainstream forum just to see if more people read it maybe someone will have some insight? If so thanks.

Hedski,
Hi mate, it would appear in my opinion not many folk know about the AB.

When I was doing my licence in 94’ Terry Lee had an AB I think it was VH -LEE or LEC it escapes me now.

There was a private one also VH AND
I think commercial had one also back in the day
I used to fly VH AAL which was an A model converted it was SN 606.

I think an operator up north still flies one also.

I think there’s also an AB206 flying around Adelaide if memory serves me correctly.

Slight drift but Australian Helicopters operated a classic AB412 on the Adelaide rescue contract prior to the fleet being upgraded. From memory (I may be wrong) but Bell parts were used on the AB412.

The AB412 was still in use in Adelaide last year, as a back up aircraft

Good info. It’s just a case of seeing if it’s worthwhile importing an AB should CASA allow Bell parts be used on one.

Why would CASA allow it? it’s up to the manufacturer to decide what parts they allow to be fitted to the aircraft, CASA will just say ask them, otherwise get an EO.
