CASA AVMED - Shock news

Postby Savage_duck » Fri Sep 25 2015, 07:41

Much as though it pains me, credit where credit's due.

Today i received my med certificate, just 3 days after my medical!!

It was only a straightforward renewal with no complications or restrictions, but even so, 3 days to review, approve and issue. Impressive.

The shock could seriously damage my health, then that would be another longer discussion with CA$A

Did it cause you to have a stroke getting it so quickly?

I got my initial issue a few years ago and that only 7 working days. They can be pretty good when you talk to the right people.

I spoke to a pilot who was forced to have his medical confirmed [at great cost] by his specialist. #casa then deigned to issue the medical for one-year.

When the medical was due the next year, #casa the same data and material were provided by the specialist, with no changes to the health outcomes at all.

#casa refuse the medical.

The complaint by this person and of #casa is that #avmed are not properly regarding specialist reports, even when the specialist report is confirming the situation from 12-months previously.

By the way, this individual had been held up on his medical for a period in excess of 6-months. There are a large number of these examples and the problem has not gone away with the demise/ removal of Navarthe Pooshan.

Got my Medical (class 1) by email recently. God knows how such a f****d up system can issue a medical via email though can't sue a part 61 license within 6 months....

Allah Bless CASA.

Just returned from a visit to my DAME for a flu shot & he told me that due to the new CASA online medical system it now takes him 1.5 hours to complete a class 1 medical exam. He can't afford that much time so he has stopped conducting aviation medicals, he might start again if CASA fix the system. I hope this doesn't happen too often or those of us in regional areas will have to travel just to get a medical done.
Another interesting point- I received my medical certificate after my last examination only after following up with CASA to find out why it was still pending. No-one could give me an answer as to why it was delayed but as soon as I enquired it was issued. Today the Doc looked in the online system & it was still showing as pending more than 2 months after it was actually issued.
I worry that we're headed for a cluster with this system, it's not just pilots & engineers getting screwed by CASA incompetence.

It pains me to pay a rare compliment however I've recently used the new medical renewal system and it seemed to work ok. Granted, the applicant now spends a good chunk of time to renew and start the process online however you either spend the time renewing and answering questions without the doctor or you can spend the time answering the questions with the doctor. Overall it took me nearly 6-7 weeks for the full renewal to come through. Touch wood, the first time was easy and hopefully the second time is too.

Now, for a licence that is now more easily transferable overseas......

Well I have to disagree on the improvement unfortunately. My medical renewal has been lost in space for a while. Finally managed to get into the medical system to find that my pending application shows that I require distance reading correction (don't and never have). DAME didn't know how to use the system as it was his first time. My old DAME gave it away due to extortionate costs and equipment needs. Very underwhelming, yet very unsurprising.

Seems like the distance correction is a new added "feature " to be given to all.

You can fix the "distance correction" by doing what most pilots do:

Been waiting for my medical to come through for a few weeks now so I decided to call them. Seems it got forgotten about, although the person I spoke with was extremely helpful and made a personal effort to get it sorted out ASAP. Hoping it comes through soon.

I was told there was a "back log".
Its not like they dont know how many medicals they are going to receive.
Or do they have the same issues dealing with the new system as us mere mortals.

Definitely something going on with the system. I called up to check the progress of my class 1, and get told they are waiting for my ECG and declaration, which I know full well the DAME had done. A few days on and by email I receive my class 1 medical, is this right? Later that day I then get a phone call from the DAME saying I still need to sign something for them to send off to complete my medical. I'm confused to say the least.

Last week I renewed my med. Doc hardly asked me a question other than "have you done your homework?" He clicked away on the computer for 10mins then sent me into a nurse for height, weight and ECG. I returned to his room for another 10mins of him clicking away then, went and paid. As I was paying, I checked my emails and it was waiting for me in my inbox.

So it came through today, yes via email, it is now how they are issued. Less than 1 week after my call to them so thanks to atleast one helpful staff member at CASA.
If anybody is wondering about the glasses issues, you do require a second pair at your check up, listed on casa web site.

Maybe I was lucky but my 61 licence was returned in 5 working days after lodging it and my medical in 2hours 25 minutes after it was lodged at 5pm. Possibly the only thing I did different was to ring bother areas and let them know it was coming in. So well done CASA but we have other areas of concern within the organisation though it does show that areas are getting better. cheers Fergus
