Postby CYHeli » Tue Sep 15 2015, 04:54

The revamped notice of proposed rules for Part 138, Airwork for both helicopters and fixed has been released.
CASA want your feedback on the proposals, which will apply to people and operators who conduct aerial work activities in aeroplanes and rotorcraft including mustering, spotting and survey operations, media operations, external load operations, surveillance operations, marine pilot transfers (now reclassified as aerial work) and emergency service operations such as search and rescue, police and customs operations.
EMS will appear in another section.
More info here.
What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.

It will be interesting to see the new EMS part and see if two crew will be required.

Interesting that 138K.2 (instruments etc) for MPT specifically - listed in 138.425 - don't have any reference to 'autopilot' or 'two pilots' ... regarding the lack of visual reference to ground or water 30 mins (current CAO 20.18.4.2) ... or from Feb 16 - any lack of visual reference (removing the 30 min period for this requirement).

It looks like MPT (only) 'may' be conducted Single pilot at night without this requirement. It'll require a bit more reading - but the instrument reqs are listed quite specifically for MPT in 138.K.2 - it's going to be interesting how that plays out.

Don't shoot me down too hard - it's just an observation
