First of all hello to everyone.
I have an FAA (H)PPL licence which I trained, studied and completed in 6 weeks.
I emigrated to Australia in Feb and decided to start CPL training.
Had to wait three weeks for my ARN.
Then another two weeks to sit the medical.
I then booked the eye test and failed the ishihara.
two weeks later CASA wrote to me to tell me I had to do the FALANT test.
Two weeks later had the appointment for the FALANT.
Four weeks later CASA wrote to me to tell me I had to sit a CAD test.
There is only one CAD testing centre in Queensland and the Dr. is from Sydney and won't be here until August.
So it will be six months and then I have to apply for an ASIC?
So over six months before I can sit in the pilot seat?
I informed CASA I had a slight deutan colour deficiency and if they had told me the procedure was to do all tests I could have booked the complete eye test and colour tests back in March and had them all done at once at the same place which would have saved me a few months and a few hundred bucks.
Is this normal service.
Thanks
Paul

Get used to it mate,
The last 18 months or so has been the worst as the licencing system is being changed, (look up other threads on part 61). Expect to wait a while, but does not hurt to call them and chase things up, tends to help keep the ball rolling with them.
I would also get that ASIC approval going now, so ensure you don't have to wait a while for that.
Good luck, and welcome to the wonderful world of CASA

Answer is "YES"
However, the current news is "good":
Well the dam appears to have broken this past week, with a series of articles continuing on in the Australian, together with a major statement by casa Board chair, Jeff Boyd.

A step in the right direction, now how about an FAA style licensing system or better just adopt the FAA rule suite!

The #aopa OZ has come out with a very directed push against #casa.
In my view, about time, as #aopa has been very much playing from the regulators side since early 2000's when #aopa took money from #casa to run "safety seminars".
A body cannot be representative if it takes money from the "...enemy...".
It is a refreshing move by Marc de Stoop:

Re: Senate inquiry into Air Services [#asa]
Here we go, #asa [Air Services] avoiding the direction by #casa.
Dick Smith came out in GA's support and with letters to the minister.
Senate estimates last night "out" a series of #asa problems: http://vocasupport.com/senate-committee-mauls-asa-with-dick-smith-giving-aviation-a-future/
