Fire Contract Rate
Just wondering what the going rate is for contract pilots for this years fire season?

Re: Fire Contract Rate
It really depends on your experience and Acft types. Anywhere from $600-$1000 or more per day plus per diems.

Re: Fire Contract Rate
As twistgrip mentioned pay rate will vary, but here's some examples I've seen this year so far;
- Single engine (air attack); varies from $380 /day at the lower end to about $550 /day + per diems
- Single engine (medium bombing); lowest $500 /day + hourly flying rate + per diems to $900 /day + hourly flying rate + per diems
- multi-engine (medium bombing); lowest $600 / day + hourly flying rate + per diems to $1100 / day + hourly flying rate + per diems or $1200 flat rate / day + per diems
I can't speak for heavies as I don't know.
I guess it will come down to what you can negotiate based on how deep the company's pockets are / your experience / whether the machine is on full time contract or call when needed.
Good luck.

duty travel allowance, meals etc etc.... Basically it's a nominal figure that a company pays per day on top of your wages to cover meals and incidentals.
Often the tasking agency eg. DSE (victoria) covers meals etc so you won't get a duty travel allowance paid in that instance (depends on the company).

Re: Fire Contract Rate
my mistake.. should read last year.
from ATO website.
If you pay your contractors under a contract that is wholly or principally for labour, you have to pay super contributions for them. This is even if the contractor quotes an Australian business number (ABN). These contractors are considered your employees for Superannuation guarantee purposes.
using the decision tool would make it hard for helicopter companies to claim that the pilot was a contractor not entitled to super.

Bumping this thread to the top, with the downturn in the resource sector are we in a race to the bottom or are the contract rates holding up?

If someone isn't paying the rate you think you deserve, don't fly the machine, go elsewhere.

Re: Fire Contract Rate
I agree with HIP. However there is always some desperate pilot who will work for virtually nothing to get an endorsement or experience and some crappy operators use this to their advantage. They get paid very well to provide the machines and are just robbing you by paying less than the going rate.

So you're saying it's a relationship between supply and demand?
What is this strange concept you are taking about?
