It was ROTORWORK’S VH-AHF Bell 47G-2
The entire tail gearbox dropped into the harbour & all 3 on board were killed.

I was amazed that they said in the video that the camera man was working all the way to the end. Seemed more likely to me that the camera kept rolling regardless, doubt those poor souls had much input during their final few moments. With the immediate violence and speed of the spin one would hope they blacked out quickly.
I stand to be corrected but, what a horrible way to go...

The question was always asked:
He had floats - why not roll off the throttle and try to auto to the water? Couldn't have had any worse result.
Staying airborne just caused them to drift over land to Goldfields House.

Agreed, as much as we don't know what was going through this poor bugger's head when all hell broke loose, we've ALL been trained to recognise and respond to tail rotor failures. When I flew ENG and had to report on news stories over downtown city areas I always left enough altitude to make it to the harbour if I had to go down, we had pop-outs so I'd rather take my chances in the water than go down in the middle of busy streets in a city environment.
