If needs be, what is wrong with approaching downwind?
If you know you are downwind or a component thereof, no problem in my opinion.......If you don't know then the machine will alert you in due time!!

Its ok to land down wind. As long as you know your downwind.

Eventually downwind approaches can easily bite yeerarzz  (unless) it aint REALLY well calculated, well set-up & a long ways back, plus knowing You got oodles of HOGE power (well before short-final) but then again; ONLY if You really really have too, because there's just no other safer option 8) personal experience I rarely have no other option hmmmmm maybe 1 in 30-40+ landings, Some how You can always finish off that final bit & get her into a head-wind of sorts, it's also lot easier & a lot less work-stress-load (c:_ol ow & lets not forget; safer too **^**

A majority of the time the pad has been cut/is shaped in such a way that there is only one way in and out. Some days the wind is on the nose...but usually not. Old mate seemed to have a very specific spot he was going for and nailed it 100%. When you're landing down wind, its because the wind is the least dangerous factor.
Horses for courses. Technique helps too.
Don't come roaring in downwind with the pole on the floor in a Jetty and expect to end up facing the way you want!
