It definitely was Mast Bumping, when the aircraft smashed into the ground.

A hard landing is when you bend a skid or the tailboom is not quite inline etc but its still standing upright on it feet...

You're right though, the media can't make up its mind. This crash is a 'hard landing' and yet when someone pulls off a perfect autorotation with no damage to the aircraft it gets labeled as a 'crash landing'.
