Helicopter Movements

Postby GAFNomad » Fri Mar 2 2007, 08:32

Hi,

Just wondering if the moderator of this forum would be interested in putting a topic of helicopter movements on this forum, where members can add to it when something is on the move?

As I said in a previous post, I take pics where ever possible, but based mostly at Moorabbin, so if I knew what was there and maybe coming in prior, I would be ready for it.

I noted last weekend Gazelle -VAS

And in the Heli-Serv hangar a Yellow / Blue Squirrel being stripped/re-built... does any member know what is to happen with it?

Possible up coming movements I would like to find out about are the Australian GP and Avalon Airshow.

Thanks
GN

Hey GAF,

This weekend is the Superbikes at Phillip Island, there are usually a dozen different helis on the grass paddock along with joyflight machines if your interested in taking snaps....

Nice Gazelle pic!

G'day All

Can anyone tell me what helicopters to expect at the Australian GP and while I am at it Avalon Airshow?
If anyone here is flying in to either advent and would like a pic of there landing, please let me know... :D

I assume the helipad will be Harry Trott oval again like last years GP?

Can anyone please point me in the right direction for the AIPSUP for helicopters into Albert Park.

Thanks
GN

Hollywood,

As usual, nice pickies.
BUT, first time I've seen the panel in your 130, and I see you have all those flash MFD's but the old steam driven flight instruments.
Did you opt for this or are the glass AH and HSI too expensive????????

Glass wasn't an option at the time of ordering, however it's available now and we'll be going glass for the next one, assuming we get another 130. There's actually only one MFD on the panel, the double screen setup in the centre is the VEMD which replaces all your usual engine monitoring instruments. The VEMD also records flight times, engine health checks and any exceedances or failures that may have occurred during the flight. Under that is a Garmin 530, on the right is a Garmin GMX200 MFD with a Garmin 430 underneath. The 530 is linked to the MFD so that any directions you give to the 530, like the 'Direct to' button, come up on the MFD as well. I still need to squeeze a CD/DVD player on top of the MFD yet!

NOTAR ??

Postby CYHeli » Thu Nov 8 2007, 01:07

Who owns the NOTAR on floats?
I see the AS350's in the same paint scheme. Nice gear for that company.

All those aircraft are operated by Australian Helicopters, the NOTAR is for the marine pilot transfers.

Don't know about the GP, but Avalon isn't for about a year and a half. Couple of Navy Squirrels and an A109E heading for Symmons Plains Tasmania in a couple of days.

Thanks Capt H. Found this via another thread...

I now recognise the paint scheme.

MC, how long are the A/C down in Tassie.
I'll be down there after the 17th and love to check them out.

Three Navy Squirrels are heading down on Friday the 16th, I know because I was going to tag along with them. Would be comforting to know there's three Navy Squirrels behind you, two with hoists, in case you end up in the drink!

Phillip Island V8's

Postby CYHeli » Wed Nov 28 2007, 22:47

Who is going to the V8's at the Island this week end?

Capt H, will you be there? You still have to prove to us that the paint job is real and not just more photoshop! :)

Kulwin Park, I saw on another thread that you are going, you flying? If so what are you bringng down?
Drop into YPID and say "Hi."

This is my last week end at the Island before I move to Mildura.
As Capt LowTime says, cheers and beers...

This is probably a silly question but Capt H, any particular reason why you fly the 130 from the left hand seat? Just curious :D

Some aircraft have an approval to be flown from either side, however it takes special approval from the relevant authority. And then some aircraft are just designed to be flown from a certain seat. I dont know about the EC130, but I do know that the MD500 is left hand command...however some military forces have introduced a right hand command for them. In Canada where a lot of long lining is performed, pilot preference and aircraft suitability/design is such that the left seat is the command seat where the pilot is looking out and down the long line whilst leaning over the collective, which is much easier then the other way around. It gives the pilot better control and a better view below...maybe the latter is a personal opinion only.

Aircraft which are traditionally right hand command such as B212 and AS350 can get special mods so that this is changed to left hand command for ease in long lining operations. I am sure Capt Hollywood will soon reveal all to those of us not flying the 130. I doubt Capt Hollywood does much long lining where this would come in handy, however for those slow and low level beach runs in summer along Surfers Paradise and the rest of the Gold Coast beach strip, looking down from the left could have its benefits.

As for the pics that are spoken off with Capt Hollywood flying with reference to a VOR, I am sure he can answer this one for you as well. Suffice to say, on a day like the day in the picture, as long as he keeps the blue stuff on the right and the green stuff on the left, he should get to where he is going in a little while.

PS And whats with all the little stars and pink thingies between posts...I feel like I am posting on a Ken and Barbie site!!!
