Military is a great way to go. The wisdom here is to learn what the system offers and take advantage of it. Join the associations, apply for the bursaries and scholarships and use them to gain the fringe qualifications that work may not offer immediately. The other tip is to keep current so that you are always available if an opportunity arises and don't knock back any flying regardless of how boring or simple it may be, even pad transfers (parking!). Keep your civil qualifications current with your service ones and take any opportunities to gain tech quals as well as the flying skills. Make yourself aware of the crew duties as well as the flying ones up front and it makes you a better pilot (the full picture); it's the same benefit for loadmaster/crewmen learning about pilot duties. The beauty of military aviation is that your basic skills are continually practised and honed in confined operations at low level in all terrains, day and night, very versatile. It's a good way to achieve a wide range of endorsements and keep them current.
How's that for a recruiting poster!

Steve
