Australian Ag industry situation

Postby ag-pilot » Sun Feb 13 2011, 03:43

I am a recently qualified NZ Grade 2 Ag pilot.
I am interested to find out information on the Australian Ag industry situation for flying opportunities or companies worth contacting. Any information would be much appreciated.

You could try HeliWest they do or used to spray in the southwest. I think someone took over that work but you could probably give them a phone anyway cheers Bob

McDermott aviation and Airwork aviation both do a fair bit of Ag work based in South East QLD.

You will only get into Mcdermotts if you get the ok from the AG Shed boys(loaders essentially)they seem to have a lot of pull in the place and fill the chief pilot in on what there thoughts are....even though none of them have a flying background, they seem to know more than 10,000 hr ag pilots.....get the picture...

Ag company's generaly like to start these fresh AG 2's in a loading role for a year or two. Thats where you find out if they are suited to the industry and your business. What they learn in that position about the chemical applications, the environmental issues, and general company pollicy is invaluable should they progress into a flying role.

Hello there, you could try these guys, I believe they do some spraying in Ontario... http://www.sunrisehelicopters.ca/ not sure what their requirements are. In Canada you need to write a provincial exam to gain an aerial applicators license, no big deal if you have the study material.
Good refresher for most guys anyway, only valid for a couple years. Forestry has suffered however over the last several years, should be picking up again soon. They recently advertised for a pilot.
Cheers.

Maybe also try Ashley Dickson from County Helicopters in Victoria. They operate bunch of R44s. Everything is worth a shot.
