ASIC renewal while not flying???

Postby lowlevelhell » Thu Aug 29 2019, 02:05

Hey all, as the topic suggests, my ASIC is coming up for renewal but I'm not currently employed as a pilot or in the aviation industry, can I renew it personally or do I have to have my "aviation related" employer do it?
Cheers.

Hay mate,
Yes you can renew it. If you like to be sure, you can call or email them, they are very helpful and reply in max two days.
I renewed mine after my cpl without a job and likely that for my first employer it was essential.
Hope it help

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!! :x

So I go to the post office with my current ASIC/Flight Crew License/all necessary verification documents and ASIC renewel form filled out online and downloaded/printed, only to be told that the documents used to obtain my ORIGINAL ASIC is not good enough to renew it!

I explained that these SAME documents are what I used obtain the CURRENT ASIC I have, but nope, VERITAS the company that processes applications for ASIC's refused to budge! The AUSPOST worker I dealt with called VERITAS and I spoke to them while I was in the post office, I just couldn't understand their convoluted, inane logic behind that decision. Between renewing medicals, ASIC's, HFR's, blah blah blah.... I may as well captain a bloody banana boat down the Congo!

Yeah the Aus aviation industry is certainly fcuked. Oc:=
What’s the point of renewing if you’re not in the industry? It used to not be any different in price for a renewal or initial issue so the point was moot, has that changed now?

I'm pretty sure obtaining my first ASIC was free! It's bad enough that operators want a shopping list of requirements in ADDITION to actually holding the requisite CPLH, now the gubment wants additional levels of bureaucracy and red tape just to allow you to work!

If I was to add up the $$$ I spend annually and the contortionist act I have to perform just to maintain my quals I know I'd break down crying, better off driving for uber....

Long story short, I've had several to and fro discussions with Veritas regarding ASICS for our students. Specifically, all ASIC agencies require some kind of letter to justify why the applicant needs one. EVERYONE else is happy with the general spiel of '..this is a student (who will eventually get their licence and go elsewhere), we don't know where they might need to land, please issue a Red ASIC so they can access any airport in Australia', but not Veritas, who initially wanted a minimum of two specific airfields (but.. it's a Red ASIC with access to everywhere I said), then upped the ante and rejected application after application without a minimum of three specific airfields. I'd had enough at this point and attempted to call to speak to a person instead of email, but they wouldn't connect or return my calls.

My advice - use anyone other than Veritas and you'll likely have a better run. I issue ASICs on behalf of another Australian aviation identity company and we have never had any issues so far.

Aviation ID Australia, never had a drama with them other than when I went to pick it up they never had the documents listed for the agent to check, quick phone call and it was all sorted.

Does CASA have legal right to refuse issuing licence/adding ratings, without submitted application/expired ASIC, if I make it clear I don't need it for employment in Australia or the unescorted airside access?

I wouldn't even had been able to get mine first time, without one photo ID pilot licence, when I was quite new to Australia and CASA s#!t.
Read about the changes 1-2 years back. So it got worse? Geez.

OP, why on Earth would you want to pay money for nothing even when situation doesn't force you to waste the money, is due work?

You "technically" only need an ASIC for UNESCORTED AIRSIDE ACCESS.
If you can find a cheap enough escort, you will not only save money on the ASIC application, but she won't take your house when you can afford one that's clean.

Just saying.

AviationidUstralia.net.au is the people I’d use every time.
