Advanced R44 Training

Postby Jimmy Riccard » Tue Dec 30 2014, 06:14

http://www.helibiz.com/index.php/training/10-advanced-r44-training-courses

Has anyone completed this training course with Heli-Biz?

Is it worth spending the cash?

Seems like they cover a number of aspects of flight that aren't covered in your 'average' CPL.

Being that most pilot's first job would most likely be in a 44 I was thinking this training would be invaluable to any low hour pilot.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

Cheers

You should have covered most of that in your CPL ... If you didn't I would be asking some questions. 8)

Intermediate Course: 5 hours … …….. $ 4975 GST inclusive in our R44 or $1475 GST/hour in your R44.
Advanced Course: 10 hours ………… $ 8950 GST inclusive in our R44 or $2950 GST/hour in your R44.

Wow seems like you would want to use their helicopters at that price

I don't remember doing backwards or sideways auto's in my training. I also didn't do zero speed autos at a tame of heights. I'll happily take some additional experience in precision approaches.

I would also be happy to debate with you the usefulness of additional emergency training for anyone.

But that wasn't Jimmy's question, was it?

I think it is fairly obvious the rates for using your own helicopter are total and not per hour, i.e. $295 per hour.

having recently completed an R66 endorsement with Des, I would highly recommend him. Great guy and clearly very experienced. I'm Hoping to get down and do it soon.

I did the 10 hour with Des last year with my own machine, obviously just an hourly rate, I don't have allot of hours but found the emergency training invaluable and Des is a great bloke & very experienced pilot.
Sure we cover emergency in our initial licence but no where to this extent, highly recommended.
JR pm me if you want anymore info?
Cheers Geoff.

Landing the helicopter with no speed, should one encounter a jammed control/s. pop;

To hazard a guess, I'm thinking the course is tailored towards the weekend warriors that own their own machines.
Can't really see a "working" helicopter pilot fork out 9k to refresh techniques that should have been thoroughly covered within the CPL syllabus AND within a companies recurrent check and training schedule.

How do you conduct a zero speed landing with a jammed cyclic? Your landing speed would depend on which stage of flight it became jammed... Eg... hover, taxi, transition to fwd flight, cruise..... Even with jammed collective, the approach and landing is dependent on power setting at the time combined with RRPM control to conduct the landing.

Not saying it can't be done. Just wondering.

Like I said, most of this is conducted during your CPL in reasonable detail and it certainly won't help get employment if you are a junior burger. I would say save your money and spend more time and effort building a good rapport with companies who will potentially employ you.

not flown with Des personally but if I had the spare $$ I would do any "advanced training" I could to ensure I am the most experienced pilot I can possibly be for my clients!! :cool_slp: 8)

And yes I fly an R44 all the time....

Right now I'm lucky to fly a kite, so that looks a bit wan*ky hello pilot.

How about being constructive or just mutter to your self.....

If pilots can improve their skills through additional training in ANY aircraft type surely that's positive for the industry on a whole isn't it?

Cheers and have a great new Year guys..

How about a deep breath before replying there quick draw.
Be my guest to pay 9k and then add your positivity of the industry.
Who knows, after that you may be able to put your kite away and play with the big boys.

Banter I'm ok with. Arrogance no.
Flimsicopters are too prolific to discount for most pilots now.
Back to my kite.
