Try microflight. They have a privately owned 66 in the shed, and some good grade 1 instructors

R66 is bloody expensive in Australia for what it's 'worth'. Unless you own one or company trains you after hiring you, I'd personally not bother.

Not nearby, but only know of Rotorvation at Jandakot and obviously Cape York got R66. I myself want to sometime do some training/endo's for fun, but that'd be more like B47 or Enstrom. I would only call 66 a beefed up Raven with more luggage space and nicer sound to it when blades spinning down during shutdown.

R66 is actually a very clever first turbine endorsement. Insurance companies count R44 time as R66 time, hence it is the best stepping stone from piston to turbine that we have seen as of yet. But i certainly agree, in terms of value for money, a piston engine is really not so bad!!

rebuilder,
Yes. If there's as many R66 as Jetrangers in Australia and possibly 1/4 or 1/3 of R44 in scenics/charter ops, yes, valuable for newbie as 'speculative self-sponsored rating/endo', but I meant it in terms of 'character', haha. I itched to get some F28c time at place I went to fly R44 a bit after my training, but didn't. Also know of place or three in USA with B47, not as 'common' as in Canada or Australia. Articles I read about R66 mentioned 'easy/simple starting' so long checklist is followed. Guys who flew it mentioned less 'trickle power' from engine in auto compared to R44 and obviously needs tad more lead-in time for bringing power in if not fulldown. I considered doing 5hrs in R66 in US, but so far having flown Robbies, there's other types to fly out of interest. Or was the OP wanting it for job purposes? Anyway.

Ripper aircraft, we do a lot of hours in it, shes fast and holds a heap of weight, but quite frisky with low fuel and just the pilot. We do all our endorsements at banks town helicopters with Bill.
