Worth a watch.
Kudos for the rescue but geez, lucky no one was hurt.....
The industry can learn from such examples, so worth a discussion.

Re: VICPOL Sea Rescue
Think the crew each deserve a carton for that effort with maybe something extra special thrown in for the down the wire rescue guy. It definitely looked like an 'uncomfortable' job. Not many overwater jobs are that comfortable though, especially to small vessels like the one on this example.

And hopefully the winch was checked for any shock loading issues?

Was thinking the same myself however maybe conditions dictated otherwise.
When you view videos like this it always presents a good discussion point as a crew as to 'how we'd do it if that was us'.
Regardless, and not to sound like a broken record, but winching to/from small vessels...one of those very hard basket type jobs.

And if the sun had not yet come up?
What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.

They don’t use them but perhaps they should start. Every other professional rescue operator uses Hi-lines for the very reason shown in the above video clip.

OR perhaps a better question for rescue crews - Would we have even attempted the rescue if we didn't have the appropriate equipment or procedure for such a rescue?
This is the question that will keep helicopter crews alive.
