The 91 year old pilot and closure of small airports

Worth a read:

Aside from the feel good story of the older pilot gent, a more pressing issue is that of smaller regional airports facing uncertain futures. How many small and mid-sized businesses would disappear if many of our smaller airports were to close for good?

They are only going under as it is impossible to get the local councils to let go of them, people use subsisdisted airports for nothing $$ wise and then wonder why they close. So a council has to spend a large amount $$ wise so a normally very small percentage gets to use them.

Of course all the aiports have a master plan for making them work.

As a commercial operation your not allowed to charge correct rates and the users are just continuing the subsity at someone else expense other than the council.

Goulburn airport is a prime example and the ongoing fight between owner and existing users.

Might be a bit hard for the RFDS etc to support the small towns without an airstrip to fly into.
