Guess he didn't intend to land there then... Can't have been a very pleasant task for you guys. Sadly many of the interesting places we land are as a result of someone else's misfortune...

Wherever it is*, it's either a long time before aviation bureaucrats got invented, or some guy really knows how to write an AOC application.

What a fantastic little operation to run. (i am presuming that pad & shed set-up was/is permanent home to a smaller charter helo?) Did it stay afloat (in both senses), do you know?

* Not anywhere in Australia, surely.

Paps,

It has been in operation for a long time, and still is. And in Oz.

And so is the skinny little pad next to it.

Ummmm....the nearest (lame) guess??? I could offer would be up at Palmy/Pittwater: is it the turnaround spot KP shifted to after the pontoon got nixed? I've never paid much attention flying past...either that or maybe in Freo, WA...belongim bigfellah lotsa money, anyway. There be some or other legal stoush every other year nowadays, you'd reckon.

Wherever it is EH I'm amazed it's still operating. And chuffed - some hope yet that helicopters won't be hamstrung into being merely airplanes with spinning wings.

Only 1000 miles out, then.

How is it that Queensland Councils can manage this and Sydney Councils fine you if you so much as fart outside?

Interesting that they added two more spots waterside since I was there in 2007, collecting guests from the flash hotel nearby.

Paps, that Pittwater pontoon pad was properly approved and just big enough for the 205. When it was extended for the 76, both the Maritime Services Board and the local council got their noses out of joint that they weren't asked for approval, so each decided to stop it. Good ol' Sydney.

Good ol' Sydney.

I believe that the sydney city pad is back on the agenda, hope they get it right this time as it could be a great benefit to our industry here in the Sydney region. in the age of australian aviation where airports seem to be dissapearing it would be good if this harbour pad got the nod :D

Paps, Is the Long Reef pad still authorised for use, or is that strictly for Lifesaver to use only?

Tac71, I'd be bs-ing if I pretended to know for sure, I'm only just getting my Sydney area legs back after a long break. I flew the harbor lane this afternoon though, and heard the seaplane taxiing for Longie, so if that big grunty bloody radial can slip past the local Noise Nazis then the silky hum of a turbine in blade Whisper Mode surely must. (Someone with a bit more recent Sydney time who, um, knows what they're talking about might enlighten us both...

EH: you may be pleased to know that I took exceptional care not to slap my knackers together too loudly whilst passing overhead the former HQ of the Northside Residents Against Helicopter Noise...

The bridge and harbour looked gorgeous from 500' today, btw.

Sadly, I didn't have a camera with me when I flew UNDER the harbour bridge.

Not many of us have done that legally - some military folks, and Richard Smith are amongst that elite group. (edited to Richard because the site changes delta india charlie kilo into "knob", and I do not intend to label Mr Smith as a knob.)

I concur Eric, you may now write Dick. Helothere.

Varansi, a city in the Uttar Pradesh province India

Loverly little village in India. Population about three million.
Enjoyed the people and country hugely. Was well looked after and will remember my short time there fondly.
Hand in Pants, I'm thinking, my god, that IS huge!!!!!!!!
