Plane spotters
We flew into Gladstone the other day and had photos being taken of us while we were on approach and his and her flash was very disturbing as it was flashing non stop in our line of sight ,then while taxing also we had them facing straight at us and the same problem occurred. Once we unloaded pax I walked over and told the 2 people husband and wife I assume that they should be mindful of what they are doing. To my surprise he said go get fu@ked and i will take photos where ever I want. Now I have found out the names of these two and wondered what should we do, any help as I honestly think this could be a huge safety risk like lasers are

Re: Plane spotter's
Were they actually on the airport or outside??
If they were on airside, you may have something to go them over.

You're probably just better off leaving them be. Really though, what's the risk? It's very minimal.

Don't think the government will agree that flashes are a huge safety concern.

Same thing used to happen at Townsville airport when the hornets were in town. People would lean on the sign that said: 'no photography' and take a photo. Security were always trying to get them prosecuted, but unfortunately, in most cases, if they aren't airside they have no case to answer...... Aside from being a complete squeezer.

There may be no offence as it is a public area.
Unless you want to speak to the Federal Police and ask them if your laser comparison is a good example.

He is known as a serial pest. The plane spotter site should not promote his photos as he is stuffing up something others like.

Ya know, years ago I was night flying at an airfield in NSW. Doing some hovering work with a student and some cheeser decided to pull up in his car and shine his brights directly at me.

Aahhh the good old serial pest. I will always remember the time he jumped the fence at Rockampton during a Talsmin Sabre exercise. He ran stark naked covered in paint straight past the Caribou's and planted his painted body image on a Yank Super Stallion. Needless to say these guys had just left Iraq and weren't too pleased to be here on exercise instead of going home. Let's just say he got a few extra bruises than most

Zeus , I think you are referring to the serial campaigner against warships, helicopters and all things American , he died of natural causes 2 or 3 years ago

Re: Plane spotters
Most plane spotter groups who conduct themselves properly are considered as an asset to aviation safety and security. It's not unusual for them to have a direct liaison with the local airport safety officer. This allows them to preserve the best locations for their activity under a mutual understanding and are usually highly valued. If you have a genuine concern, register it with the ASO and he will pass it on to the local organization. With a bit of luck, the member's pressure will bear on the problem persons and their conduct.
Avn hazards do occur and are marked on the landside ie hachure markings on poles, wire indicators and flashing lights, so irresponsible conduct in close proximity to the operating area of the field is a genuine consideration.
If you do nothing, it becomes considered acceptable conduct by the peretrators.
I think that serial pest that was described was the idiot from Cairns who stuck the pickaxe into the Tiger at Rocky.

Could be. When they briefed us they kept calling him the serial pest. The same guy once release by the police went and handcuffed himself and 2 mates to a Army transport truck that was carrying a tank. Unfortunately for them they didn't realise the tank operator was in the truck. They just locked the truck up, unloaded the tank and kept going. It was the running joke for that exercise. It even made the news. Funny enough that was the last he was heard for that exercise...
