Good bye Westpac on the Gold Coast ?

Postby The Ozzie Boy » Sun Sep 29 2013, 23:24

An agreement has been reached between CareFlight and the Gold Coast City Council to allow a crack squad of lifeguards to work on land and sea.

Perhaps i'm missing something but I fail to see what a beach orientated, advanced first aid trained person (maybe), can bring to an aerial sea search and rescue operation?

Also, just to have a bit of a dig, statistically (dubious I know!!) guess who the 'first responders' are in the large number of surf rescues?...Surfers. I have lost count of the number of swimmers in difficulty I have had clinging to my board whilst waiting for the experts to come and drag them to shore.
I want to add however that the job they do perform on the beach in saving lives is very worthwhile, I just wish they would not insist on telling me what I can and can't do so bloody often!

I was under the impression that the Careflight 412 at the GC had a winch. The article reports one needs to be added. Does this mean a new machine will be used or did the winch get taken off of the AS350 and 412 there?
