Wondering if Im paying too much for initial Class 1 medical. I’m under 40.
I seem to be getting quoted from $290- $350 for opthamologists and around $400 -$500 for DAME’s to conduct normal tests with ECG, Blood test ( Glucose, Lipids) & noise test.
Is this in the ballpark? Seems expensive for a yearly test.
Are the same tests required every year, and does it cost this every year after first year?
Also, If there is anyone specific best to use in Sydney or all pretty much the same?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Am I paying too much for Class 1 medicals?

Welcome to aviation
That seems ballpark if it includes everything you need. You will have to check casa website for ages on when you need to redo things like ECG, bloods etc. I think ECG is every 2 years over 30 and every year over 40 and stuff like that. As I said have a read of casa page.

HI,
In Sydney I used Dr Fernado in Frenchs Forest. He was $330 everything included last time I used him.
The Dr I have been using on the Central Coast just retired but he was $330 as well, including ECG.
Not sure why your doing Glucose or Lipids unless this is your first medical.
Cheers
Matt

One Dr NOT to use is Anna Crane in Sth West Sydney. I had to complain to CASA about her, she was totally incompetent and unprofessional.

Dr Price is good, on various days of the week he consults in Bondi or Parramatta. My last one was $340 incl ecg etc.

Thanks all for the replies.
Yeah, this is first medical.
I also just seen Dr Fernando, was really good and same price as you mentioned Matt. Plus $100 for the blood tests needed.
I also saw Dr Lock in Epping for Opthamology exam, really good doctor especially at only $220.
Definitely worth ringing around as there is some huge price differences between doctors.
Guess I need to get used to feeding the dragon.
Thanks again for all the heads up.
