Used for directional control only. This machine used nozzles at the rotor tips to rotate the rotor, therefore no torque reaction. Note duct from engine up to the rotor.

OK guys, I have serious doubts as to Black Ducks judgement on aircraft, he considers this, this abomination below to be a good looking aircraft  and worse still has proposed he would like to own such insult to aerodynamics..... :?

so your thoughts please? Is this possibly on the list as one of the ugliest things you have ever see in the air?

A good idea needs landing gear as well as wings to get off the ground.

Not sure about the ugliest however very interesting little machine for its day!.

Built in 1959 in Rochefort, France, this was the Djinn. Powered by a turbine engine which fed compressed air up through the rotor, along the blades, to be exhausted at the tips. Effectively every blade tip was like a mini jet-engine. The Djinn was France's first production helicopter, and the world's first production jet-engined helicopter. Preserved at the International Helicopter Museum

How about this beauty? The Ka26!
Older brother of the aforementioned Ka226, it was first flown in 1965 and is powered by twin radial piston engines! Sweet. 8)

can that thing actually fly? what an insult to aerodynamics!!! I would not put my name on that as the engineer, if it was the last flying creation on earth.. Oc:=

Essie no one has posted one, but it has had two mentions :D

Here's one from the UK I took from another forum. Uglier than a Brantly. All this copter needs now is that hideous paint job from Commercial Helicopter in Mudgee to claim the title of "World's ugliest helicopter". :D
